SCHOOLS WORK
Assemblies
We are renowned throughout the area for our high energy, high impact assemblies. In just a few minutes PYFC's youthworkers bring a relevant message of the Good News first thing in the morning. Picking up relevant themes that show how God is concerned for their welfare in all circumstances as well as bring a challenging message of an alternative way of life. The young people remember our assemblies for a long time. Staff and pupils constantly praise both the enjoyment level and thought provoking challenge the assemblies bring to them personally. Assemblies usually comprise of a volunteers based activity followed by a short anecdote and biblical application on the morning's theme. Recent topics have included - community; bullying; hope; money; dreams; life's challenges; communication; self-image; failure & fashion
(staff & pupils comments).
Lessons
PYFC have a history of delivering high quality lessons to over 20 high schools over the years. Within Religious Education (RE) and Personal & Social Education (PSE) lessons we have taken lessons on everything from the bible prayer and Jesus to abortion euthanasia world poverty and sex and drugs education. A developing key area within the classroom is one of support work. By being in the room but not teaching it is possible for PYFC workers to develop stronger relationships with individual pupils as well as helping the overall class with the work in progress. Our workers are not restricted to RE and PSE but have input into PE maths music and IT. This means we can mobilise and equip more volunteers by using individual skills and gifting relevant to each person
(staff & pupils comments).
Breakout Clubs
Breakout clubs are a fast paced energetic theme based Christian lunchtime club mainly attended by non-Christians. Each week the club explores a theme through games and activities as well as discussions
and talks. We aim to provide a safe environment where pupils can relax and have fun whilst thinking about relevant issues. In each club we have around 20-30 young people turn up each week. It is seen as a great place to build relationships with young people in a relaxed non-threatening way to present the Gospel (pupils comments).
School based detached
Occasionally instead of running a Breakout club we will decide to operate a detached programme on the yard. During the lunch break our workers will 'hang out' with young people chatting or playing footie with the sole purpose of building trust and respect with the young people outside of the classroom environment. The young people begin to realise that they are not a threat or a grass to the teachers as here we can even tackle issues such as bullying and alienation at grass root level.
Detached
We are currently looking to mobilise and equip volunteers to begin working as detached youthworkers in specified areas of Preston. This involves a commitment to walk the streets week in week out building relationships with young people on their turf. If you have a heart and desire for this ministry get in touch with us to see about setting up a linked programme with your local church and PYFC.
